Memorial Weekend Campout

We went camping this last weekend, and I have to say, if it had been my first camping trip I would hate camping!! We drove down to Fairview and drove all the way up the canyon, just to find it covered in SNOW!!! The road was closed to Miller's Flat, where Aaron wanted to go, so we turned around and drove to Ephraim. We drove up that canyon and it was so muddy we couldn't go to the second place Aaron wanted. By then I was a little less than enthusiastic about the weekend.
Rather than turn around and have wasted all the gas it took to get up both canyons, Aaron decided we would just camp at a turnout of the road. By the time we got everything set up it was late and so we just went to bed. When we woke up Friday morning, there was a light dusting of snow on the ground. Though the day started out very cold, it did get a little bit warmer. Around 3:00 we were able to go outside and enjoy the mountains. It was overcast and windy, so I didn't think to put sunscreen on my kids, and so they all got pink cheeks and noses. Oops!! You would think I, of all people, would remember even when it is overcast you get sunburned!!
Grandma and Grandpa Bailey came up later on Friday. The kids were so excited to have their grandparents camping with us!! Let's not forget Uncle Gregory and Aunt Megan!! They got there around 5:30 or 6.
Saturday was a little better. The weather on the mountains is so quick to change. The morning was beautiful, the sky was blue and it looked like it was going to be a wonderful day!! The wind picked up and the clouds came in. It got cold! We went for a drive back down Ephraim Canyon and up Fairview Canyon to see if there was anywhere to go fishing. Grandpa, Uncle Gregory and Aaron wanted to fish, but the lake we tried to go to was frozen. So we turned around and went back down!! Later, when we were back to our camp, they went fishing at a lake up above where we were camping...why didn't they just go there first?? Don't ask me!! It was really muddy, but the fish were biting.
Aaron took Eliza fishing and she caught 2 fish!! Aaron forgot he had the camera, so he didn't get a picture. Grandma Bailey got one, so hopefully I can get a copy from her! One was small, so Aaron put it back in the water, the other one was bigger so Aaron kept it and cooked it for their lunch. Eliza was so heartbroken that her fish had died.
Anyway, the weekend was fun, yet cold!! I don't know how eager I am to try to go camping this early in the year again. Both camping trips so far this year have been fun, but cold!! I guess I should be grateful Aaron bought a trailer, and we weren't tenting it!! Camping is becoming a family favorite, Eliza told me this morning she wants to go camping again this weekend!! Eliza and Kilee both get so excited when Aaron and I talk about camping. It is fun, and we look forward to many more trips this year!!!

Mountain snow and camping aren't my idea of a good time. You are a good sport and it sounds like everyone managed to have a good time (except for Lizzie's fish)!
