Winning is not about headlines and hardware [medals]. It's only about attitude. A winner is a person who goes out today and every day and attempts to be the best runner and best person they can be! Winning is about struggle and effort and optimism, and never, ever, ever giving up.

Fun Run 4 Kids

In my training for my first marathon I have been an example to my children. Finally, a good example..lol!! My kids are usually so eager to want to run with me or run on the treadmill when I have finished. It is fun to see them excited about fitness and running! There are days when I don't know how good it is, because Eliza is now talking about weighing herself and how many calories are in foods and how much sugar, so on and so forth. I do not want her to become one of those girls that obsess over her weight and try to become a body type that she may not ever be.

However, today was not one of those days!! She and I went and ran in her first race and she did AWESOME!!! She did so good, we are so happy with her and the accomplishments she has made! Her race was a half a mile and she was so excited and so ready to run, it was fun to see her that thrilled about running!! The half mile was for the 5-8 years old kids, she came in fourth for the 5 year old girls at 3 minutes and 57 seconds!!! I have to admit, I am feeling very prideful about how great my kids are!! I gotta tell ya though, there are a lot of parents out there that are very competitive and I feel bad. I just want my kids to have fun and enjoy the accomplishments that come from working toward a goal and seeing that goal become a reality!! It was so amazing to see how she beamed as she ran across the finish line....priceless!! Looks like I have another running partner!!On a personal note, I ran a 5k before her race and beat my own personal record. I came across the finish line at 27 minutes and 45 seconds. I can't complain though....I ran 20 miles yesterday faster then my previous 20 mile time so to finish the 5k in under 28 minutes, I am happy. Tired, but happy.
