Winning is not about headlines and hardware [medals]. It's only about attitude. A winner is a person who goes out today and every day and attempts to be the best runner and best person they can be! Winning is about struggle and effort and optimism, and never, ever, ever giving up.

A New Found Gratitude

This last week has taught me a lot! It has been a busy week, helping a friend move, and on top of that I haven't been feeling my best. Last Saturday we took the kiddos fishing up Ephriam Canyon. Driving up the canyon my ears were popping about every minute or so, but when we made our return trip I wasn't so lucky. My ears did not pop and have been plugged up ever since. My sinuses have been hurting for over a week and I have no sense of taste!

While helping our friends move, we have had them over for dinner every night. I have made stroganoff, breadsticks, sloppy joes, Hawaiian haystacks, cheese cake....and have not been able to taste any of it!! You know, your sense of smell and taste are things I think I took for granted, but not having them has helped me appreciate them so much more. I realize it is not as much fun to bake and cook when you cannot smell the wonderful aromas that you know are filling your home!

This week has helped me appreciate my kids so much more as well. They have all been so great while helping our friends move. Each day they would go with me, help carry boxes, help clean baseboards, even Marshall kept asking what he could do to help. There was no fighting or yelling or arguing the whole time we were helping!! My kids are so great and I am so thankful that they are so willing to help serve our neighbors! I am truly blessed to be the mother of 4 wonderful kids!

I think this last week wore them out! Today they have been whiny and irritating, but that is ok, because I know they have worked so hard this last week....I'll give 'em a day to whine. But tomorrow...man they better watch out!! LOL
