Winning is not about headlines and hardware [medals]. It's only about attitude. A winner is a person who goes out today and every day and attempts to be the best runner and best person they can be! Winning is about struggle and effort and optimism, and never, ever, ever giving up.

Labor Day Campout

Each Labor Day Aaron's extended family has a huge camping trip down to Boulger. It is a little reservoir up Fairview Canyon. We weren't sure if we were gonna go this year. The budget has been really tight and we just didn't know if we could make it work. Sunday night Aaron and I decided we should go and get away, so we planned a menu around what we had on hand, bought some more milk and bread (on Tuesday) and were ready to go. We got everything in the trailer, filled it with water and headed out as soon as Liza got out of school Wednesday. It was really nice to get away from the stresses of everyday life and have a little rejuvenating time in the beauty of the mountains.

The kids absolutely love camping and it is something they would do every weekend if we could. We weren't able to go on any drives around the canyon, we had only enough gas to get us home, if we were lucky ;)! So we stayed up by the lake/pond the whole weekend and it was actually really nice, for me. I think Aaron missed being able to go for drives, that is kind of a tradition of his parents, but we had a great time all the same. We played with Koda Bear in the water, we went for hikes, we played in the dirt, we enjoyed many campfires, we took lots of pictures and vidoes, and I even got in a run and finished a book!

The weather was gorgeous and perfect! I told Aaron I think that was the first camping trip we have gone on since getting our trailer that it hasn't rained or snowed or been absolutely miserable. The sun was warm, the breeze was just right and the nights were cool, but not freezing. To be up in the mountains and be able to take a moment to breathe has got to be one of the best things in the world. I do have to admit, I don't always enjoy the idea of camping when it first comes up because it just means a lot of work on my part, you know all the prep work, all the packing and then all the clean up and unpacking when we get back! But I have to admit, as the kids are getting older and are more able to help and now that I have learned to communicate with Aaron a little better he is a huge help as well, camping is a lot of fun and I might even look forward to it more than I care to admit.

There is one part of camping that I don't think I will ever enjoy, and that is how filthy the kids get!!! I can't stand it when they are so gross and then they come up and touch me......oh that is one thing I will never like. But, the kids really do like getting dirty, so as long as they are happy..I am happy! Besides, it all washes off anyway....might as well let them enjoy themselves.

(But that doesn't mean I have to be dirty!;))
